Happy Campers: How to Prep for the Perfect Camping Trip

With the kids out of school and warm weather in the forecast, there’s never been a better time to embark on a family camping adventure. From forests to fields, there’s no limit to the picturesque spots where you can pitch a tent this summer. The preparations you make ahead of time will help to make your summer camping trip a smashing success from start to finish.

        Plans, Perfected

Leaving preparation to the last minute can lead to some serious chaos. Avoid all the stress that comes with a last minute scramble by making detailed plans and itineraries for your camping trip way ahead of time. Prior research helps eliminate any potential mishaps, and these details will help keep you on track as you begin putting together a more tactile plan.

The internet is an invaluable resource when it comes to formulating a proper camping plan. Spend some time scoping out the necessary details for the upcoming adventure. Compare and contrast possible destinations, add up their positives and negatives, and then pick the right fit for you and your family or friends.

There are a few essentials you should consider when making your pre-camping plans. These include determining the length of your trip, the specifics of your camping destination (including governmental rules and regulations), and the amount of time it will take to reach the campsite.

        Weather or Not

No matter where your camping journey takes you, it’s crucial that you arm yourself with knowledge that will best inform your adventure. This is especially the case when it comes to weather, the most contentious factor in your camping plans.

Taking an in-depth look at the forecast for your chosen dates can save you from any possible weather woes. If there’s any chance of rain, you can pack along some custom tarps for waterproofed tent protection.

Keeping tabs on the weather will also benefit your home while you’re away. If you have prior knowledge of upcoming inclement weather, you can add your protective measures such as table covers or grill covers to your backyard accessories.

        Tents & To-Do Lists

The second stage of your camping preparations is simple enough. Drawing up a to-do list is the easiest way to get your ducks in a row, from remembering what all to pack to listing out all of the activities you and your family want to experience on your camping trip.

While there are some who can keep a list in their head, the rest of us will do well by putting your checklist in writing. Writing out tasks to take care of and supplies to pack starts a methodical process in your brain, allowing you to pack efficiently without leaving anything behind.

        Safe and Secure

As your summer camping trip draws near, begin taking steps to secure your home while you and the family enjoy your camping adventure. Whether it’s hiring a housesitter or securing your outdoor accessories with chair covers and table covers, there’s plenty to take care of before heading out.

Make another checklist covering all that needs to be taken care of around the house. This can include:

        • Setting an AC timer to save energy
        • Hiding valuables from sight
        • Solidifying plans with a housesitter
        • Activating an alarm system

The last thing you want to have to worry about while enjoying your outdoor adventure is the well-being of your home. Taking these simple steps will allow you to sit back and relax without worry.

        Just the Essentials

The key to stress-free camping is to pack only the essentials. And while you don’t need much to pull off the perfect camping experience, but there are a few items that are nothing short of crucial.

The most obvious item on the list is the tent and all of its accessories. Before packing it into the car, do a quick inspection to make sure it’s in proper shape, with no holes, tears, or other damage. And, perhaps most importantly, don’t forget the stakes!

Sleeping bags, air mattresses, and plenty of blankets and pillows will ensure a perfect night’s sleep under the stars. Custom tarps can be laid beneath your tent to create a perfectly flat surface ideal for a comfortable snooze.

        All the Accessories

Once your essentials are packed and ready, you can move on to gathering up all the accessories that add fun and functionality to your summer camping adventure. Implements of shade such as outdoor umbrellas or canopy covers are ideal for keeping cool when the afternoon sun is beating down on your campsite.

The importance of packing your own water supplies can’t be overstated. Having jugs of clean water allows you to cook and drink without worry. This is especially true if you and your family are setting up camp in a particularly rural spot.

A pocket knife is a multifaceted utility when camping. A high quality pocket knife can be used for trimming rope, cutting fishing line, and even whittling, the small pieces of which can be used as kindling. If you’re not keen on spending time with kindling, firestarters are a particularly useful tool for igniting a crackling campfire without having to break a sweat.
